2. CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS
One of the primary techniques used by Doctors of Chiropractic (D.C.) is a "spinal adjustment", also known as a "chiropractic adjustment". In fact, chiropractors are renowned experts who specialize in performing spinal adjustments. The term "adjustment" refers to the physical alteration of the spinal vertebrae. The goal of such spinal adjustment is to reduce vertebral subluxation and return the spine to a more natural state of health. The word subluxation is derived from the Latin terms Sub ("less than" or "slight") and Luxate ("to dislocate" or "be misaligned"). Accordingly, vertebral subluxation means the slight dislocation or misalignment of the spinal vertebrae.

When a patient has a subluxation, chiropractic adjustment can be used to correct the misalignment, which in turn helps enhance joint mobility, reduce pain and muscle spasm, and reduce nerve irritation or impingement. Chiropractic adjustment is a highly refined skill acquired during years of intensive training. The technique involves the manual application of a controlled force into the spinal vertebrae which have become misaligned and hypo mobile (limited in their range of motion). This procedure corrects vertebral alignment and is often accompanied by a clicking sound. While this sound might surprise first time chiropractic patients, it is merely the audible release of gas from within the spinal joints.

Furthermore, the procedure rarely causes discomfort or pain. In fact, many patients report a sense of immediate relief associated with the chiropractic adjustment and often note positive changes in their symptoms shortly after receiving care. If discomfort is experienced it is typically minor and resolves within a matter of days. To achieve optimal results patients may receive several adjustments over multiple chiropractic visits. In addition to chiropractic adjustments, the care plan may also include massage and functional restoration exercises.

3. MASSAGE THERAPY

Suffering from Neck or Back Pain? Are your Muscles Sore? Feeling Stressed?

At Pain Relief San Diego Injury Chiropractic we pride ourselves as the premiere massage therapy clinic in all of San Diego. Unlike typical massage centers, Pain Relief San Diego Injury Chiropractic employs a full time staff of licensed massage practitioners (LMP) who are highly trained in therapeutic massage as opposed to relaxation massage.

A relaxation massage is a rather straightforward session using classic Swedish massage techniques. The massage therapist will utilize techniques of applying light to medium pressure dependent upon the client’s preference. This type of massage will often take place at a day spa or resort center. The purpose of the massage is simply to help the client to relieve muscle tension and create an overall feeling of relaxation and euphoria. A therapeutic massage on the other hand is more thorough and is intended to not only provide relaxation and euphoria but also apply advanced techniques to target and alleviate pain and chronic health issues. Therapeutic massages also provide great preventive care to recipient.

At Pain Relief San Diego Injury Chiropractic we have a team of LMP massage therapists who are trained in the practice of therapeutic massage as opposed to simple relaxation massage. For more information on how therapeutic massage can help you, give us a call so we can answer any questions you may have.
4. SPINAL DECOMPRESSION
Spinal Decompression can offer a healing relief from back pain. You may want to know whether spinal decompression is the right treatment for you. If your back pain is due to sciatica, herniated disc, bulging disc, slipped disc, pinched nerve, arthritis, lumbar disorders, or chronic back pain; the answer is yes. You are probably an ideal candidate for spinal decompression. If you are suffering from pains due to causes discussed above and prefer to find a non-surgical solution to relief and heal your back pain, spinal decompression is the best solution. Spinal decompression has healed and changed lives of many patients who had given up finding a no risk and effective treatment.
WHAT IS THE THEROY BEHIND DECOMPRESSION ? HOW DOES IT WORK ?
An experimental study has shown than in non-degenerated, but bulging discs (something your MRI or CT scan would show), decompression can lower the pressure inside the disc. This negative pressure may then draw or suck the displaced disc material more towards the center of the disc and away from your nerves. For many patients this can mean pain relief because a compressed nerve is a painful nerve. If the pressure on the nerve is released, it can begin to heal. Spinal Decompression is designed to assist the body's natural tendency to heal itself because Mother Nature sometimes needs a little help. If the disc can be moved even a small amount away from the nerve, this can be enough to decrease inflammation and irritation. We need more studies to fully understand why patients can improve when they receive this type of treatment and which types of disc problems respond the most.

5. WORK RELATED INJURIES

Work injuries can be extremely devastating, not only emotionally and physically, but financially as well. The most common types of work related injuries are in the back and neck. Back and neck injuries account for almost 90% of injuries happening in the work place. The goal is to heal the injured worker, that way they can go back to their daily activities in a safest manner possible.

Many work related injuries are caused by regular, everyday activities on the job. Most occupations require a worker to do the same movements with their body, day in and day out. These repetitive motions, over time, cause the body trauma. Repetitive stress injuries (like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) are some of the most common work related injuries we deal with. These injuries are hard to indicate right away because the onset is very gradual. Not only is it a very serious injury that is the main cause of absenteeism in the work place, but it is the biggest expense in worker’s compensation.

One of the most successful treatment options for work related injuries is Chiropractic Care. We offer various different techniques for our patients. This allow us the optimum level of positive productivity to help heal your body from the inside out.

6. SPORTS INJURY CARE

A popular way to maintain your health is to exercise by participating in sports. Exercise is very good for your overall health. It can reduce stress, and even strengthen your joints, bones, and heart. However, it is an unfortunate fact that injuries can occur while partaking in these activities. Whether you’ve become overzealous with your routine, or simply forget to use the proper safety equipment, it’s become very common nowadays to become injured while doing these activities.

SPORTS RELATED INJURIES

The most common sports injuries are Strains, Sprains, Tendinitis, and Stress Fractures. Strains and Sprains are very common injuries. When you accidentally twist or overextend a joint, it can tear the muscles and tendons. When you overextend these muscles, it can cause a strain. If the ligament then tears, it can result in a sprain. Tendinitis, or “overuse syndrome", happens when certain joints in the body are overused. When these parts become overworked, it can result in pain and dysfunction. With the tendon being used over and over again, it becomes inflamed from the repetitious activities. Tennis Elbow and Golfer’s Elbow are great examples of Tendinitis. Stress fractures are another injury commonly seen in regards to sports injuries. Stress fractures are also known as Fatigue Fractures. These fractures happen when there is a large, abnormal amount of weight being placed on a bone. It is extremely common in beginner runners who start off at a higher level than advised.

COMPREHENSIVE CARE

In order to diagnose which injury you may have, x-rays or MRI’s may be necessary. This helps rule out fractures and allow us to find soft-tissue injuries. Ice and heat may be helpful in reducing pain while the tissue is healing, and elevation helps to reduce swelling. The most important thing to know is how sports injuries can be prevented. Educating yourself and loved ones on proper warm up and cool down procedures, sufficient water intake, and proper techniques can reduce sports injuries substantially.
